Planning for the 13th Annual Summit Park Homecoming is underway,

We are Looking Forward for Another Successful Year!!

 Welcome Back

A meeting was held on Friday, March 22nd at 6pm, we discussed last year’s Homecoming and changes we need to make for this year’s Homecoming on July 20th 2013.

Here are some of the topics we discuss:

It was presented that we have one person taking Family Photos throughout the event in a designated area, while bringing back the photographer from last year. We will be handling the recognition of the ones who have passed away over the past year a little differently as well, instead of having the names announced we would like the family members to stand and announce the person(s) name who have passed. We will recognize this before we eat, along with many other announcements.

Parking was another issue brought up at our meeting, we will try and have at least one person asking people that are not elderly or handicapped to park further away from the pavilion giving those that are not able to walk great distances a better parking spot. We will have an area designated to drop off people/food, etc when you come  then you can proceed to park your vehicle in the designated areas.

Last year Jerry Losh asked that someone else try to handle most of the announcements, he would like to spend more with his friends and family. With this being said we will either search for someone with this type of personality or have someone take the reigns over for the M/C.

The Summit Park Homecoming Committee has purchased a P/A system so we will not have to rent one any longer. We have a wired and wireless mic system that will be a great asset this event each year.

Signs have been purchased that will be placed throughout the neighborhood, please keep an eye out on these so they will last us a long time. If you would like one in your yard please let me know.

This will be the 2nd year we will be at the Summit Park Recreation Complex and under the New Pavilion. The Volunteers of the Summit Park Association have worked hard over the last few years to accomplish these tasks, there are a few more changes coming soon like the basketball court getting new poles, backboards and rims, a new playground will be built in the same area of the basketball court and pavilion. The rest rooms are up and running now so we will have them on the top of the hill along with the ones at the bottom. In the next few months we will have electric ran to the pavilion for all who rent it. The Summit Park Association has been renting out the pavilion for parties, weddings, reunion and sporting events, this year we are hoping to have a few flea markets as well.

With this year’s Homecoming fast approaching, we are hoping to beat the previous year record of attendants’, last year we had a record of 286 people register (and several others who did not), so the total number of people was well over 300. So please reach out to your neighbors, friends and families who have never came to a Homecoming in the past or have not been back for a while so we can reach our goals.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please direct them to me and I will relay them to the SPH-Committee or the SP-Association. Thank you for all of your support..

Facebook and Website

Everyone, it has been over three years since we created the Facebook Group and the Website, hard to believe it has been that long. I want to thank you all for making it so successful. We are now well over 500 members…

Pavilion and other projects

Just to update everyone on the progress of the Pavilion, it is 99% completed, all we have left to do is finish the ground around it and add some electric to the structure. We have the new bathrooms constructed and working. We are still working on the new basketball court, thanks to a generous donation from Jenkins Ford in Buchannon, the kids in the community will have a full size court to play ball on. We are working on an article for the newspaper to show gratitude to everyone that helped out with these projects, especially Dan Dotson and Jamie Greynolds. We had a great response to the picnic tables that we offered for $160, we have built 21 of them in no time, currently we are offering the purchase of park benches that will be put throughout the Park Property they run $140 (these benches are constructed of treated lumber and will be concreted in the ground, see pictures below) if interested let me know.
